Uttarakhand Fire Service Department came into existence on 9th Nov, 2000 with the establishment of Uttaranchal State. This department has played an active role in fire fighting activities and protection of living oganisms in addition to disaster management. According to a order on dated 22/10/2003 issued by the Fire Advisor to the Home Ministry of the Government of India the name of Uttarakhand Fire Fighting Department has been changed to Uttarakhand Fire & Emergency Services.
On establishing 29 Fire Stations in common public areas and 4 fire stations in industrial areas, presently the total number of fire stations in Uttarakhand has reached to a total number of 33 fire stations. Simultaneously three fire units have been set up in Kapkot and Garud in Bageshwar district and Dharchula in Pithoragarh district.
